This dazzling piece from Florence, Italy, is actually a vase-shaped work of art. Red and black paint is hand-dripped on the inside and allowed to dry. A highly trained artisan then applies metallic gold leaf to the vase's interior, which in turn fills in blank spaces and creates the unique striated finish. Because gold leaf is quite delicate and can damage easily, care should be taken when placing dried or faux florals inside the vase to avoid scraping. Water is not recommended as it can harm the finish.
