How can I receive a Pier 1 Imports catalog?

Click on the "Stay in touch with Pier 1" link located at the bottom of every page. This will take you to our "In-Touch" sign up form where you can sign up to receive a catalog by providing your name and mailing address. You will be placed on our mailing list to receive the next catalog.

If I were to purchase a product from your company in high quantities (bulk), would I receive a discount?

Pier 1 Imports does not sell its merchandise for commercial purposes, it is sold for personal enjoyment. Therefore, we do not offer discounts on bulk purchases.

Where can I get the music you play in your stores?

We receive many compliments regarding the music playing in our stores. We regret to inform you that we receive the music from a company that specifies commercial-use only and special equipment is required to play it. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

However, if you happen to own a business, or know someone who does, you can call the music company directly to see if you can obtain a copy of their music for commercial use. The company is called DMX, and you can reach them at (800) 345-5000. Please note our tapes are designed exclusively for Pier 1.

If this is not an option, please contact our Customer Relations Department at (800) 245-4595, prompt 5. Just let us know a song title or artist. We will contact DMX Music Publishing directly and obtain a set list of the music you heard.

I am a student and I need information regarding your company in order to complete a project. How do I acquire this material?

We receive many requests from students, customers, and investors for information about our company, North America's largest specialty retailer of imported decorative home furnishings and gifts. What are the measurements of your cushions?

We offer four standard cushion sizes, which fit most of our furniture. Because they are hand-sewn, our standard cushion sizes may vary slightly. Their measurements are as follows:
Chair Cushion - 22w x 20d x 4 1/2"h
Settee Cushion - 46w x 21 1/2d x 6"h
Ottoman Cushion - 21 1/2w x 17 1/2d x 3 1/4"h
Dining Chair Cushion - 16 1/2w x 16 1/2d x 3 1/4"h

Can your furniture be used outside?

Our furniture is intended for indoor use only unless otherwise indicated in the specific product information.

Is your dinnerware microwave and dishwasher safe?

Most of our dinnerware is designed exclusively for Pier 1. Our dinnerware is dishwasher safe under certain conditions. To prevent chipping, make sure dinnerware pieces do not touch in the dishwasher. Handwashing is recommended. To prolong the life of your dinnerware, avoid exposure to extreme changes in temperature. Our dinnerware is not recommended for use in the oven.

**Earthenware is a clay-based, porous ceramic that is fired at a low temperature. It is light, pliant and able to hold brightly colored glaze. Because earthenware is porous, it holds heat very well, and we recommend not using in the microwave. Earthenware is very well suited to the colorful, hand-painted designs you have come to expect from Pier 1.

**Porcelain is a ceramic that has been fired at an extremely high temperature, making it durable and chip resistant. The clay turns white during the firing process. Porcelain is a superb long-lasting dinnerware choice. Its durability, along with our competitive prices, make it an excellent value.

**Stoneware is a heavy, non-porous pottery made from clay fired at an extremely high temperature. More durable than earthenware or porcelain, stoneware is great for everyday use.

If a merchandise collection has been discontinued and is no longer available at Pier 1, is it possible to purchase it directly from the manufacturer or to locate it at another retailer?

It is the nature of Pier 1 Imports to continuously provide new and exciting merchandise for our customers. To make room for our new collections, we must discontinue some of our older items. Many of our items are designed exclusively for Pier 1 and when the item is discontinued, the manufacturer stops production.

Do your candle wicks contain lead?

Pier 1 candles have wicks that are 100% cotton and are considered lead-free. There is a metal core that keeps the wick upright during burning in a few of our candles. We use Zinc, which is approved by government agencies, rather than lead in those candles.

Does your dinnerware contain lead?

We strive to provide our customers with quality merchandise. Each of our dinnerware collections has met and exceeded all FDA and California Proposition 65 Standards regarding lead and cadmium content in dinnerware. They contain less than .226 PPM (parts per million) of lead.

How can I care for my Pier 1 merchandise (care and cleaning instructions)?

Glass
Clean with a soft cloth or newsprint paper and a quality glass cleaner. If an edge chips or breaks, discard the item immediately to avoid injury.

Leather
With use, leather will become softer and the color will darken. Dust regularly with a soft, slightly-damp cloth, drying each piece thoroughly. Occasionally buff leather with a quality leather balm, following the manufacturer's instructions. For stains, or if an overall soiled appearance is reached, use a professional leather cleaning service to clean the entire item.

Metal
Dust regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Wash periodically with a mild soap and water solution. Dry each piece thoroughly. Most metal furniture has a protective coating to prevent rust, however rust may occur if the finish is marred or wears away over time. Remove rust with sandpaper or a metal brush, renewing the finish with a matching color of Rust-Oleum® spray lacquer.

Mosaic
Dust regularly with a soft, damp cloth, gently scrubbing the grout lines to release trapped dirt. To renew luster, wax occasionally with a quality furniture wax. Test first in an inconspicuous area, as wax may darken grout lines. Never place hot, cold or damp items directly on furniture surfaces.

Outdoor
Outdoor wood will weather naturally over time to a silvery-gray color and hairline cracks may appear on the surfaces; these cracks will not affect the strength of the item. While in use, occasionally wash the furniture with a mild soap and water solution, allowing it to dry thoroughly before use. To help maintain the original wood color, periodically apply a coating of teak oil or linseed oil, treating all surfaces and joints, following the manufacturer's instructions. Winterize outdoor furniture by covering it from the elements or moving it to a dry place where it is sheltered. For outdoor metal, follow the metal care instructions in this section.

Upholstery
Fluff and rotate cushions frequently to promote even wear. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming with a brush attachment and/or light brushing is recommended. Spot clean using a mild water-free upholstery solvent or dry-cleaning product, testing in an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and avoid any products containing carbon tetrachloride or other toxic materials. If an overall soiled appearance is reached, use a professional furniture cleaning service to clean the entire item. Never clean cushion covers separately from the body; as fabrics may become discolored and not match. Do not apply fabric protection products as staining may occur.

Wicker
Vacuum regularly and wipe with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust. To remove stubborn dirt from crevices, scrub with a soft bristle brush using a diluted solution of water and Murphy® Oil Soap. For touch-ups, use a Guardsman® Touch-Up Pen in a matching color, a wax scratch remover stick or a furniture polish containing matching stain, such as Old English®. Every few years, apply a fresh coat of clear or color-matched spray lacquer in a semi-gloss finish.

Wood
Dust regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth. To renew the luster, use a quality wax or polish, following the manufacturer's instructions. For touch-ups, use a Guardsman® Touch- Up Pen in a matching color, a wax scratch remover stick or a furniture polish containing matching stain, such as Old English®. Clean up spills immediately and never place hot, cold or damp items directly on furniture surfaces. Do not place wood furniture directly in sunlight or next to heating vents, as UV rays and heat will damage the finish and the wood.

Gift Cards

Can I use a Gift Card as payment on my Pier 1 Rewards Credit Card?

No. Pier 1 Gift Cards may not be used as payment on your Pier 1 Rewards Card account.

Do Pier 1 Gift Cards expire?

No. Pier 1 Gift Cards do not expire.

Can the recipient return the Gift Card for cash?

Pier 1 Gift Cards may be redeemed for merchandise only. Refunds will be made to the purchaser in the original form of payment with the original receipt.

Can a Pier 1 Gift Card be purchased in the United States and be redeemed in Canada, and visa versa?

Yes, our Canadian and U.S. stores are able to convert the Gift Card value over to the appropriate currency rate in both countries.

Design Concepts Program

Can another business associate or client use my card to receive the discount?

Only the designer whose name appears on the card may receive the discount.

How often do I have to renew my Design Concepts™ membership?

Design Concepts™ memberships must be renewed every three years.

How long will it take to receive my Design Concepts™ membership card?

Once your application is approved, you will receive your new Design Concepts™ membership card by mail within approximately 6-8 weeks.

Does Pier 1 offer a discount to interior designers?

Yes. We cordially invite you to become a Design Concepts member, our exclusive program created especially for interior design professionals.

What type of benefits does a Design Concepts member receive?

Design Concepts members receive special mailings and a 20% discount on all regular price merchandise. (Sale merchandise and Gift Card purchases not included.)

How can I become a member of the Design Concepts program?

You can apply for your Design Concepts card at www.pier1designconcepts.com.

What are the requirements for the Design Concepts program?

Along with your application, send a copy of two of the following:

  • Proof of membership with one of the following national interior designer groups: ASID, SDSA, ISES, IDS, CID, IADA, AIA, ARIDO, IIDA, IRIS, IRN
  • state business license
  • business card
  • Yellow Page ad
  • Three recent itemized invoices sent to clients (For purposes of confidentiality, you may wish to obscure the names of your clients.)
How do I receive my Design Concepts discount?

When you are shopping at a Pier 1 store, simply present your Design Concepts Member Card at time of purchase to receive your discount.

Can I add members of my firm to my Design Concepts card?

Membership is offered to individuals, not companies. If your firm has multiple designers, each must apply individually.

How do I send documentation to complete my Design Concepts member application?

Documentation can be sent by fax to (817) 252-8995, by email to designconcepts@pier1.com, or by postal mail to P.O. Box 961020, Fort Worth, TX 76161.

If I do not see my particular design association listed, will my Design Concepts member application be considered?

Yes. The list is an abbreviated listing. We do consider other associations not listed.

I have a design job to complete now. How can I get my Design Concepts Member ID right away?

In order to expedite your membership application process, please make sure you send your documentation to us by fax at  (817) 252-8995 or email at designconcepts@pier1.com. You will receive an email within 7-10 days when your application is processed. If you are accepted, the email will contain your Design Concepts Member ID, along with an expiration date. You may print this email and take it to any Pier 1 store to receive your discount.

Will the Design Concepts card be in my name or my company name, and can I add others to my account number?

Your card will be issued in your name, with your company listed as additional information on the account. If there is more than 1 designer in your company, each designer must apply separately. If there is already a designer registered with the Design Concepts program at your company, please note on your documentation that you are being added as an additional designer for your company. You must also provide us a copy of your business card.

Can I apply for two cards in my name?

No. We only issue one (1) card per individual.

I applied for the card sometime ago and have not received any correspondence from Design Concepts, what should I do?

You should receive an email within 24 hours confirming your online application and reminding you to send in your documentation. We will send another email confirmation when your documentation has been processed. You may email us or call at 1(800)433-4035 to request the status of your application. To ensure delivery of Pier 1 emails to your inbox, please add designconcepts@pier1.com to your address book.

How can I set up my account to be tax exempt?

Please send in a copy of your signed resale/exemption certificate. We will add your tax exempt identification number to your account. Tax permits, tax licenses, or sales use permits are not acceptable as resale/exemption certificates.

Bridal & Gift Registry

Why did Pier 1 discontinue its Bridal and Gift Registry?

Part of what makes Pier 1 so unique and fun is that our merchandise constantly evolves with daily arrivals of new product introductions. But this also makes a gift registry challenging. We can no longer ensure that registry participants will be able to maintain an active and available gift list, and that people shopping for gifts will be able to purchase items selected by the registrants. To avoid any confusion this would cause, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue our Bridal and Gift Registry as of August 31, 2007.

What is the exchange policy for registry items?

With a Gift Receipt or an original receipt, we'll gladly give you a cash refund, if funds are available, for the purchase price. If funds are not available, we'll issue a Home Office Check. Without a receipt, with your valid photo I.D., we'll gladly exchange or give you a Merchandise Credit in the form of a Gift Card for the current selling price.

What if I have an active registry now, but my wedding or event date is after August 31, 2007, when Pier 1’s registry is no longer available?

Your friends and family will still be able to shop for your selected items before August 31. And Pier 1 will always offer gift cards, which make a great gift idea for brides, newlyweds, new homeowners, graduates, birthdays and other occasions.

What type of discounts do Pier 1 employees receive?

Beginning their first day, Pier 1 employees receive a 20% discount on all merchandise, including sale items. After two years, the discount increases to 25%. After five years, the discount increases to 30%.

What types of jobs does Pier 1 offer?

Pier 1 jobs are available at our 1,000+ stores, our home office in Fort Worth, Texas, and local distribution centers.

How can I apply for a management position?

If you're interested in a management position, contact the regional manager in your area. You may write or call our Customer Relations Department, at (800) 245-4595 to obtain regional management information.

I can't find any associate positions listed in the Jobs section of the website. How do I know if my local store is hiring?

The positions posted on our website are Store Management positions, Distribution Center positions, and Home Office positions. Candidates for hourly positions can call the manager of their local store to determine whether or not there is an open hourly position. You may also use the Store Locator link to determine your closest store.

Does Pier 1 offer internships?

Pier 1 does not offer a store internship program. Contact the manager at your local Pier 1 store to inquire about any available part-time employment opportunities that would meet your internship criteria.

Does Pier 1 require previous retail experience?

Previous retail experience is not a requirement to work at Pier 1.

Does Pier 1 offer part-time or summer jobs?

Pier 1 offers part-time positions with a variety of hours. We also offer summer and holiday job opportunities.

Where are the distribution centers located?

Pier 1 Distribution Centers are located in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, Washington and Texas.

Does Pier 1 offer stock purchase plans for employees?

Pier 1 employees working full-time are offered the opportunity to participate in stock purchase programs after 60 days of employment.

What is an associate position?

An associate is a non-management position in the store; duties include assisting customers, cashier, stocking shelves, and arranging displays.

How will I be notified if I get the job?

After reviewing your application, management personnel may schedule an interview based on current business needs and qualifications. If you get the job, a Store Manager will contact you by phone.

Will Pier 1 pay for me to relocate?

Please refer to information located in the job description.

Can I send in my application for an associate position?

Anyone applying for an associate position should complete an application for employment on the store premises.

What is the age requirement to work at Pier 1?

The age requirement for employment varies from state to state. For specific information, contact the manager of your local Pier 1 store.

Does the website show available jobs in Puerto Rico or Canada?

At this time, our website does not show job opportunities for our stores in Puerto Rico or Canada. You may write or call our Customer Relations Department at (800) 245-4595 for specific job inquiries.

Does Pier 1 employ "secret shoppers"?

Pier 1 does not offer any type of "mystery" or "secret shopper" program. Contact the manager at your local Pier 1 store to inquire about any available part-time job opportunities that would meet your employment criteria.

What type of benefits does Pier 1 offer?

Pier 1 offers medical, dental, disability, life insurance, 401(k), paid sick days and more for full-time employees.

I heard there's a new store opening in my town. How can I apply for a job?

If you're interested in an associate position, check the front door of the store for any employment opportunity notices, as well as your local paper. If there is another Pier 1 store nearby, they should be accepting applications for the new location, as well. Additionally, you can view the Jobs section of our website. You will be able to find job listings nationwide.
