The space above cabinets is the perfect spot to add even more personality to your kitchen. But maybe you need ideas before you start a display. Pull up a step-stool and read on.
How to begin? A: Focus.
The trick is to start with a focal point. Is it the center of your cabinets? Do you want to brighten a corner or define a work area? That’s your starting point. That’s where you’ll place the largest piece of your display. We chose a bold floral print here but your focus could be an heirloom platter or favorite sculpture.
Finding balance.
To tie everything together, occasionally repeat elements like color, theme or texture throughout. Maybe you can frame your display by using the same florals displayed in different vases. And since everything will be viewed from a distance, it’s important to have a few tall items, like trays or wall décor, to draw the eye up and set off smaller pieces in the front.
Keep it lively.
Once you’ve got the main items in place—or securely mounted on the wall—updates and seasonal looks are easy. A summer arrangement can be replaced with a harvest wreath for autumn. And you can always mix in holiday décor for extra sparkle in winter.
