Has this ever happened to you? You bring home a beautiful piece of wall decor and choose the perfect place to hang it. Then you proceed to make your wall look like swiss cheese as you try to mount it. Don't worry — here's a foolproof tip from one of our expert stylists that will help you hang your wall art perfectly every time.
Apply a straight strip of removable painter's tape to the back of your art, making sure you cover both mounting brackets. Mark the locations of both brackets with a pencil.
Carefully remove the painter's tape from your art and apply it to the wall. Use a level to help, and try to avoid creasing the tape. Find your marks and start a pilot hole with your drill, or use your pencil to make an indentation.
Resist the urge to remove all of the tape at once. Peel it back just enough to uncover the first indentation and drill your screw there. Repeat on the other side, and then remove the rest of the tape. (This makes it easier to find the second indentation.)
Now you're ready to hang your art. It's much easier if you recruit a volunteer to help you spot that first screw. And it's much, much easier if you recruit two volunteers to do all of the lifting while you supervise.
Step back and take a moment to admire your work. Depending on your personality type, you can either check it with the level one last time or just eyeball it and say, "Perfect!"
This may be the most important step of all. Give yourself a pat on the back for being so resourceful, and get ready to wow your friends with your new Pier 1 wall decor.
