Have Yourself a Virtual Little Christmas

Christmas on Zoom this year will already be one they’ll never forget -- but you can make sure it’s for all the right reasons. Read on for tips to introduce fun and festive touches to your holiday traditions for an unforgettable virtual Christmas with the ones you love.Β

Style Your Space

With your mad decorating skills, there is no need to download a virtual background. Give yourself the green light to go all out in your chat space. Joyful wall decor, cheery Christmas pillows, festive wreaths and garlands -- less is not more at Christmastime.

Don Your Holiday Apparel

There’s just something about pulling on that ugly sweater or sliding into those cozy holiday PJs that gets everyone in the holiday spirit and sets the tone for full-on fun. Up the ante and vote for Most Festive, Ugliest Sweater (a compliment, really!), Most Original -- have fun with it!

Have Happy Hour

Invite everyone to sign on with a glass of holiday cheer! Coordinate what’s in your cups by sharing a time-honored recipe in advance. Or throw out a challenge to show and tell your own 2020 holiday beverage creations, then make a recipe booklet and send it out to everyone as a memento.Β

Decorate + Donate Cookies

Give a heads up to the gang to have sugar or gingerbread cookies and plenty of frostings and toppings, then let the creativity flow. This will keep little hands busy (for a while anyway) while the grown-ups catch up. Bring some holiday joy to your local healthcare workers and decorate a special plate of cookies to drop off at your local hospital or care center.

Play Games

Once the kids are all amped up on sugar, get them moving with Christmas charades, Simon says, or an indoor/outdoor scavenger hunt. Christmas bingo, two truths and a lie, and name that tune (or Christmas carol?) are also fun and interactive games for all ages.Β

Sign Up for Secret Santa

If you hurry, there’s still time to go virtual with Secret Santa this year, too! Use online Secret Santa generators like Elfster or DrawNames to send invites to your guests to draw a name. Set a dollar limit or theme, if you wish, and a deadline for sending. Save the big reveal for your party, then take turns opening and guessing who each gift is from!Β

Tour Your Trees

Take a twirl through everyone’s Christmas trees to ooh and aah at their handiwork. Show off all the new ornaments added this year -- especially the kid-made ones!-- and take a walk down memory lane while you reminisce about the traditional favorites that have been handed down through the years.Β

Invite Santa

The kids are gonna lose their minds when Santa logs on to the call! So you might want to save this for the big ta-da. While they can’t sit in his lap, each one can tell him if they’ve been naughty or nice this year, something they’ve done to get on the nice list, and a gift they’d like to get. Invite him to stay a while to sing Christmas carols and read a favorite Christmas story.Β
