QUICK TIP: HOW TO MEASURE YOUR SPACE FOR A SECTIONAL
While sectionals can be massive pieces of furniture they’re also so functional—and perfect for cozy family nights in front of the TV or a good fire. Read on for a couple tips to keep in mind when selecting a sectional:
1. Measure the Entire Space
Start by capturing the dimensions of your entire space which will help you determine the size sectional you’ll need for the room.
2. Tape the Area
Grab some removable painter’s tape and mark the footprint of each piece you’re considering in the room. Or, if you’re really crafty, you can make full-size templates from old newspapers. This will help you visualize the flow and how you’ll use the space. Don’t forget to consider which way you want the sectional to face—if the back of the sofa is blocking another room, consider turning it the other way to keep the flow from room-to-room open and airy.
3. Don't Forget to Plan!
When taping the space off, remember to leave room for all additional furniture including a coffee table, end tables, and area rugs.
4. Walk the Space
Once you’re done taping, walk around the space to see how it all flows. Do you have to make any quick or sharp turns, does any particular area feel or look crowded and cluttered. Adjust as needed until you find a desired layout that works best for you and your space!
